Griffons fall to Generals

Thursday, July 7, 2011

In game one of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Ozark Generals, the Griffons fell short of a win, 9-8.

The Griffons started out strong with two runs in the first. Leading off for the Griffons, Peter Goudeau III went to first on a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by the next batter, Stuart Jack. Goudeau scored on a double by Peter Barrows. A single by Rick Hepworth advanced Barrows to third who scored moments later on a wild pitch.

The Griffons scored again in the third, with Goudeau again reaching first on a single and scoring by Barrows ground rule double.

The Generals answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 3-2. The Griffons and Generals each posted another run in the fifth to go into the sixth with the Griffons still holding on to their lead.

The Generals scored 2 in the sixth and another 4 in the seventh, unanswered until the eighth and ninth innings, when the Griffons scored a pair in each inning, falling just short of tying the game. In the eighth, Josh Samuelson led off with a single, then scored on Quaid McKinnon's home run; and in the ninth, Barrows led off with a home run, Hepworth singled and was replaced at first by Colby Shepperd, who advanced to second on a single by A.J. Krist and scored on a single by Gavin Stark.

Results of the second game were not available at press time Wednesday.
