Friday, August 5, 2011

The Missouri Depart-ment of Transportation announced Wednesday that motorists traveleing on U.S. Highway 71 between Nevada and Interstate 44 can expect delays next week due to construction work.

Workers from Emery Sapp & Sons will be placing girders over the southbound lanes of U.S. 71 at the 30th Road overpass in Barton County. Southbound traffic will be stopped for between 10 and 15 minutes four times between 7 and midnight.

As part of the 30th Road overpass construction Emery Sapp & Sons Inc. will be removing the access to U.S. 71 from NW 90th Road, located two miles south of Sheldon, and the median crossing the week of Aug. 7, causing brief lane closures. The access will be removed after the improvements to the intersections at NW 20 Lane and NW 90th Road aer completed early next week.

Futher south, the bridges over the Missouri-Northern Arkansas Railroad and Coon Creek on southbound U.S. 71, just north of Jasper, also are scheduled to be closed for replacement beginning the week of Aug. 8. The expected completion date is Dec. 1.

During the closure, traffic will be routed onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 71; one lane for northbound traffic and one lane for southbound traffic. This work will be performed by Emery Sapp & Son Inc.

This work is part of MoDOT's Safe and Sound Bridge program, a press release noted.
