Everett J. "Buck" Bright

Everett J. "Buck" Bright, 88, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at his home in Nevada, following a short illness. He was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Milo, Mo., to John William Bright and Vedder Bishop Bright. He married Lois O. Nichols on June 1, 1947, in Milo. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2002.

Buck grew up in Nevada. He attended school in the Milo area. Buck served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of War, receiving three bronze stars. He came back to Nevada and worked for the city of Nevada for 30 years, retiring as street supervisor. He was a member and past deacon of the Calvary Baptist Church and drove the church bus for many years for the "Kids Ministry." He was also a member of the VFW Lodge No. 2175 in Nevada.

Survivors include one son, Mike Bright of the home; two daughters, Ginger McConnaughey, Nevada, and Sandy Hayes and her husband, Walter P., Nevada; two grandchildren, Marla Vaughn, Nevada, and Ashley Hayes and his wife, Kara, St. Louis, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Bodi Vaughn, Miranda Vaughn, Trevor Vaughn and Campbell Hayes; two brothers, Ralph Bright, Atkins, Iowa, and James Bright, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and four sisters, Liddie Foust, Centerville, Iowa, Lela Withrow, Nevada, Jean Ophecheck, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bonnie Richards, Cabool, Mo. He was preceded in death by two sisters; two infant sisters; and one grandson, Jeremy Hayes.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Friends may call now and until 9:30 a.m., Saturday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
