GRANBY-- Unfortunately for the Nevada High School volleyball team, a close match went the other way.

East Newton defeated Nevada 27-25, 27-25 on Tuesday night.

Nevada Coach Ashley Thoreson said her team had its chances to pull out a win.

"We had game point in both sets and couldn't capitalize and find a way to terminate," she said. "We had several opportunities to finish the game and with some errors on our side and aggressive serving from East Newton, we struggled to have ball control. It was an upsetting loss for our team because we had focused on minimizing our errors and finding the holes on the court during recent practices. And we struggled to find our rhythm."

Nevada setter Cassidy Lowery had 22 assists for the Tigers.

Regan Kannady had 10 kills at the net for the Tigers, while Sharla Quick had eight kills and Bailey Harbit added five.

Morgan McNeley had 10 digs, while Marisa Hughes added five and Quick contributed four digs.

Nevada, now 1-2, travels to Liberal tonight.

Note: The JV volleyball team defeated East Newton 25-17, 25-11. Bree Reppert had seven kills and six aces, while Kelsey McCall had nine assists.

The JV Tigers are now 3-0.
