The Nevada High School Fine Arts Department is holding auditions for the musical "Little Shop of Horrors."

Auditions are 3-5 p.m. Sept.19 and 20 in the NHS auditorium. Roles are open to any Nevada school district student in grades nine through 12. Those seeking roles may audition either day.

Auditions will consist of warm-ups and learning a group song, along with cold readings of the script. Students auditioning for lead roles should also bring a prepared solo. Those who audition should plan to stay for the duration of the audition session.

"Little Shop of Horrors" is written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken. It is based on the film by Roger Corman and the screenplay by Charles Griffith. Little Shop of Horrors" is one of the longest running off-Broadway shows of all time and is a humorous spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies.

In the show, "a down-and out skid row floral assistant becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon "Audrey II" grows into an ill-tempered...R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination!" according to Music Theatre International.

Performances of "Little Shop of Horrors" are at 7 p.m., Nov. 17-19, in the NHS auditorium. The show is under the direction of drama director Angie Bin and music director Wes Morton. Audition forms are available from Bin at angelabin@nevada.k12.mo.us or on the NHS Web site under the Drama Club/Activity page.

Technical positions are also available for students in the following areas: stage manager and crew, costumes, makeup, hair, lighting, sound, set construction, set design, publicity, house management, props, and program design. Technical crew forms are also available from Bin or can be found on the NHS Web site.

Any members of the community who would like to help in providing artificial flowers for the flower shop backdrop or are interested in assisting with the technical crew are encouraged to contact Bin as soon as possible by e-mail or by calling (417) 448-2020, ext. 5058.
