Cottey volleyball falls short vs. NEO
MIAMI, Okla. -- The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M volleyball team defeated visiting Cottey College 25-13, 26-24, 25-17 on Wednesday night.
Cottey Coach Marla Foreman said her team got off to a sluggish start.
"In game one we were still on the bus," Foreman said. "We showed up to play a quarter of the way into game two, and made a strong comeback. We also had the upper hand on them with a 24-23 lead, and gave up the next three points."
Foreman said passing errors plagued her team in the final set.
"We had an additional practice this morning, and worked solely on a passing drill for 45 minutes," Foreman said.
For the match, Sam Pierce had six kills, while Lindsey Aldridge had four and Taylor McCue added three. McCue had nine assists and Alexis Self added seven.
Katelin Crane and Pierce had three blocks, while Kristina Coverdell had two. Rachel Massey had 16 digs, McCue had 14 and Erica Wagenknecht added nine.
Foreman noted her team still needs to come together on the court.
"I have seen my players play at a competitive level, with lots of heart and determination," she said. "However, we have to put all those qualities together for the whole match, in order to stay with the big dogs we are playing on our schedule."
Cottey (2-7) is home on Monday night against Ozark Christian at 6:30 p.m.
