NHS tennis falls to Thomas Jefferson

JOPLIN--Thomas Jefferson defeated Nevada 6-3 in varsity girls tennis action on Tuesday. The Tigers had two wins during singles play and one win in doubles.

Nevada sophomore Jessica DeCocq defeated Rebecca Humphreys 8-4 at number-four singles and Lauren Phillips of Nevada beat Heather Smith 8-2 at number-six singles.

At number-one singles, Thomas Jefferson's Shannon Clark edged Leah Creasy 9-7. Ophelia Chen handled Regan Kimbrough 8-1 at number-two singles and Thisbe Scholfield-Johnson got past Cubbage 9-7 in the number-three singles match.

Evadna Rodriquez defeated Nevada's Brandi Perrin 8-2 at number-five singles.

In doubles action, Nevada's Perrin and Phillips defeated Evadna Rodriquez and Heather Smith 8-2 at number-three.

At number-one doubles, Clark and Chen edged Creasy and Kimbrough 8-6. Johnson and Humphreys defeated DeCocq and Kierstin Lanham at number-two doubles.

The NHS tennis team (4-5) is home today against Carthage at 4:30 p.m.
