Monday blaze damages home

After gearing up, a Nevada firefighter stays low and drags a charged fire hose into a residence located at 605 North Main St. in Nevada on Monday morning Sept. 26, 2011. The Nevada Fire Department responded to the call about 8 a.m., began a search for the source of the fire and victims and learned that the resident had escaped prior to their arrival, according to a fire department press release. The fire was located in the basement and extinguished. Mutual aid was called to assist from the Milo and Deerfield fire departments and they provided one engine and three men each. Nevada police provided traffic control and the Vernon County Ambulance District was on hand to provide medical and rehabilitation services. "Nevada fire investigators determined the fire started in or around the furnace in the basement causing an estimated $10,000" in damage to structure and contents, according to the press release. There were no injuries.
