Iona Violet Capps

Iona Violet Capps, 90, Moundville, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at Christian Health Care in Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born April 10, 1921, in Moundville, Mo., to Artie Francis Taylor and Bertie Elizabeth May Taylor. She was married in 1940 to Ralph Capps in Moundville, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 1999.

Mrs. Capps was reared and raised in Moundville, Mo. She lived in a variety of locales in her early married life as her husband was a career military veteran. Iona returned to the Moundville area in 1957, and had resided there since. She worked for many years as a psychiatric aide at the Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 3770, and past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid bingo player.

Survivors include one son, James L. Capps, Moundville, Mo.; three daughters, Sandra Kay Odom, Slidell, Miss., Connie Sue Capps, Moundville, Mo., and Roberta Ann Warren, Nevada; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; one granddaughter, Jennifer Krysten Harbrucker; five sisters; and two brothers.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at Welborn Cemetery, Moundville, with Steve Russ officiating.
