Veterans Day

Saturday, November 12, 2011
Fort Scott National Cemetery technician Stacey Dawson bows his head in prayer as Larry Stevicks delivers the benediction to close Friday morning's Veterans Day Memorial Service hosted by the Fort Scott Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1165. Dawson served in the U.S. Army from 1987-2008.

The first Veterans Day Parade held in Vernon County in many years was among the many events throughout the county held in recognition and remembrance of those who have served in the U.S. military. The parade was well attended by spectators and featured a wide variety of entries from horsedrawn vehicles to walking troops of men, women and children. Above, Larry Brown, one of many veterans who rode in the parade, rides in the company of Lee Garwood and son Brayden.
A Patriot Guard Rider leads the group of motorcyclists as the parade begins. Members of the group carried many American flags as well as POW/MIA flags.
