Police seek suspects in weekend crime spree that began in Independence
Local police are seeking the help of the community in identifying two suspects in a crime spree that began on Saturday in Independence, Mo.
Nevada police responded to a convenience store and gas station in the 1500 block of East Austin Boulevard, shortly after 8 a.m., Monday, where a 38-year-old Nevada man reportedly left his 2005 Blue Chevy Blazer unattended with the keys in the ignition at the pump. Moments later, witnesses observed two suspects steal the unsecured vehicle and drive eastbound on Austin.
One of the suspects is a white female, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with shoulder length dark hair, wearing a dark colored coat, blue jeans and carrying a tan purse.
The other suspect is a white male, also about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, wearing a gray hoodie under a dark jacket, blue jeans and a dark blue-colored baseball cap with "Real Tree" printed on the front and a gray camouflage hat bill.
Police recovered another vehicle close by that is believed to have been abandoned by the suspects and was reportedly stolen in a similar fashion in Independence, Mo., on Nov. 19. That abandoned vehicle is identified by police as a 1999 Blue Mercury Mountaineer with improperly issued Missouri license plates, FH7F3W.
Police believe that the occupants of the abandoned vehicle may be suspects in a third, unrelated larceny on Saturday which occurred at the Wal-Mart. The suspects probably remained in the Nevada area over the rest of the weekend. Police are seeking any information from the public on the drivers of the abandoned 1999 Mercury.
Video surveillance from both incidents are being processed by local police. Nevada police said local officers are working closely with detectives from Independence police as well.
