Helen Frances Burris, 93, Nevada, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 19, 1918, in Coffeyville, Kan., to James M. Highley and Anna Mae Wickam Highley. She was married to Leon Jones and he preceded her in death in 1977. She then married Claud Burris on Feb. 21, 1979, and he preceded her in death May 29, 2001.

Mrs. Burris came to Vernon County at the age of seven and attended school in Montevallo, Mo. She lived in Nevada most all of her life. She operated a day care in Nevada for 40 years until her retirement. She attended the Methodist church in Montevallo.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Hulse, Bronaugh, Mo., and Frances Decker and her husband, Rex, Versailles, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Highley, Nevada; three sisters, Virginia Sumerville, Linwood, Kan., Marjorie Turner, Montevallo, Mo., and Evelyn Oliver, Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Ian Markley; one brother; and several half- brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bobby Budd officiating. Interment will follow at Milo Cemetery, Milo, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Jan. 10, between 7 and 8 p.m.
