No open burning allowed due to drought conditions

Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Due to the drought conditions persisting in Vernon County, no open burning is allowed within the city of Nevada, the Nevada Fire Department announced Tuesday, and the restriction will remain in effect until the area receives "a significant amount of precipitation," so although some precipitation is in today's forecast the burn restriction may continue.

The department also is "strongly discouraging" any burning within the four-mile radius covered by Nevada rural fire protection.

"Please consider the damage that could be caused to your property as well as your neighbors' property before you start burning, please call the fire department at (417) 448-2720 before you light the fire to see if the department has reinstated open burning," the department cautioned.
