Barbara J. Slapczynski, 83, Chanute, Kan., formerly of Leavenworth, Kan., died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at her daughter's home.
Barbara was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Parsons, Kan., the daughter of John H. and Frances LaLoge Carter.
She married John Edward Kinney, he preceded her in death. She later married Leo A. Slapczynski and he preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Norma Treloggen; and one grandson, David Lee Carl.
She is survived by her children, Michelle Quinn, Janet Kinney, Brenda Morgan, Shannon Frayer, and Matthew Kinney; her sister, Peggy McCormick; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Barbara graduated from Kansas City Community College in 1973, receiving the Riley Scholarship and the American Heart Association Critical Care Scholarship.
She worked at St. John Hospital and Cushing Hospital, eight years at the Lansing Correctional Facility, Lansing, and eight years as a special education nurse for Leavenworth Cooperative.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth.
Family will receive friends 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 20, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, followed by graveside service at 12:30 p.m., at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery, Ft. Leavenworth.
