NEVADA -- Carl Junction defeated Nevada 50-21 in a high school wrestling dual on Tuesday night.

Nevada senior Austin Huggins tries to break free from Carl Junction's Colton Mertens during Tuesday's dual.

The Bulldogs spoiled Nevada's Senior Night in the process.

Five NHS seniors were recognized before the dual-- Tanner Charles, Kyle Bennett, Zach Shepherd, Austin Huggins and Levi Wilson.

The dual began at 132 pounds, as Nevada's Charles won by forfeit.

Ranked in Class 2, Charles still has just one loss this season, but didn't get to actually wrestle in his final home dual.

Carl Junction's Nick Koon earned an 8-1 decision over Bennett at 138. Koon is ranked sixth in Class 3.

Next, Nevada's Dalton Shunkwiler defeated Ethan Wingo 4-2 at 145. Shunkwiler held down Wingo for nearly the entire third period to secure the win.

Shepherd's final home match went well. He pinned Zach Wingo in the first period at 152.

Nevada led 15-4 at that point.

But then Carl Junction's Colton Mertens beat Huggins 13-4 at 160.

The Bulldogs then won by forfeit at 170, as Nevada was open.

Next, Carl Junction's Benny McWilliams pinned Lucas Denman in the first period at 182. With that win, Carl Junction went ahead for good.

Jaydon Gunnett of Carl Junction earned a 4-1 decision over Colby Smith at 195.

In the 220-pound match, CJ's Levi Henry pinned Levi Wilson in the second period.

At heavyweight, Carl Junction's Jacob Wall pinned Tucker Wingert in the first period.

Carl Junction then won by forfeit at 106.

Next, Nevada standout Slade Stiles earned a quick pin over Carl Junction's Blake Barth at 113, needing less than a minute.

That would Nevada's last win of the night, though.

Mason Markham of CJ earned a 6-0 decision over freshman Daxtyn Osbourn at 120.

At 126, Carl Junction won by forfeit for the final score of 50-21.

Nevada, now 4-5 in duals, heads to Buffalo on Thursday. That will be the last regular season action of the season.

The Tigers will compete at the district tournament at Clinton on Feb. 10-11.

At the district tournament, the top four finishers in each weight class will advance to state.
