JOPLIN -- Vanessa Langford, a sophomore at Missouri Southern State University from Nevada, finished second in the women's pole vault at the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday.

A graduate of Bronaugh High School, Langford cleared 12 feet, 3.5 inches and was second to her teammate Melanie Bower, who cleared the same height. That height ranks as the 10th best in D-II this season.

The Lions took the top four spots in the event. The Missouri Southern women finished third in the team standings at the indoor conference meet.

Earlier during the indoor season, Langford was named the MIAA Co-Field Athlete of the Week after winning the pole vault at the UCM indoor meet by clearing 11 feet, 11.75 inches.

At that time, the jump was the best in the MIAA for women and ranked 11th nationally.

Langford and Bower both have provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Division II national championships.
