Cottey falls at Labette CC

PARSONS, Kan. -- Labette Community College swept a softball doubleheader from Cottey College on Monday in Parsons, Kan.

Labette won game one 13-2 and then took game two 10-0 in five innings.

In the opener, the host Cardinals scored six runs in the first inning and two more in the second.

Labette scored four runs in the third inning and then added one more run in the fourth.

Cottey scored once in the fourth. With one out, Lexi Johnson reached on an error. Next, Stevie Van Horn hit a double and Johnson stopped at third.

Rachel Kennedy then hit an RBI single, scoring Johnson. Liz Bromley and Hallie Comer were then retired to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Cottey scored its final run. Gabriela Torres reached on an error to start the inning.

After Taylor Buck was retired, Chelsey Rowland reached on an error and Torres went to third. Reanna Henderson then drove in Torres with an RBI single.

The game ended after the inning due to the run-rule.

Cottey had just three hits in the game -- one by Henderson, one by Van Horn and one from Kennedy.

Kennedy took the loss on the mound.

In game two, Labette led 1-0 when the Cardinals scored twice in the fourth and twice in the fifth. Labette then added five runs in the sixth inning for the 10-0 win.

Cottey had eight hits in the game, but was unable to score. Eight different players had one hit in the game -- Rowland, Johnson, Van Horn, Kennedy, Bromley, Comer, Buck and Henderson.

Van Horn took the loss on the mound.

The Comets (2-14) host St. Louis CC on Wednesday at Bushwhacker Field at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader.
