Over the weekend, vandals painted graffiti on one of the slides in Spring Street Park. [Order this photo]
The first of the incidents was reported on Sunday, when a portable toilet was knocked over at Radio Springs Park, and a nozzle on the water fountain was missing.
On Monday, graffiti was spray-painted on the playground equipment in Spring Street Park and on the street, in the 400 block of North West Street.

I was so mad Monday when I got to the park with the kiddos to see the destruction that was made to Spring St. Park..They did not report on here that tables were turned over, trash thrown all over the play ground, another table is nearly broke from the vandals as well..We spent an hour cleaning up trash. A lot of our taxes go to these parks and our children need these safe places to go and have fun. I hope they find the vandals responsible soon
This is very sad, I wish there was a way that parents would get a grip and parent their children and learn to teach them right from wrong.. There is nothing good that goes on after 11pm at night, they should be home with thier parents and their parents should know where they are and what they are doing, I do beleave there it a set time the these parks are closed. It worries me so to think that these are the ones that are to work and manage everyday life as we adults get older and retire, they work in resturants cooking and handling food, hospitals and nursing home taking care of us and our loved ones. When I go to a drive thru and the person that takes my money or hands me my food is all pierced and tattooed and no or black teeth, I will not go back. I hope they can find whoever is responcable and it is past time to stop patting the hands of these people and punish them hard for wrong doing.
What saddens me most is that these "kids" dont have any pride in community. I have thought, for the last several years, our parks were one of the very nice draws to this community. I really enjoy taking my girls to play on the equipment and just enjoy what our town has to offer. And then somebody does this. I guess it only takes one bad apple to do something like this. Really wish they would think about something more than impressing their friends before doing things like this. Very disappointed in whomever did it.
I am not surprised a bit by this as these same kids have gotten away with it since they can walk, we have a high amount of parents that come in the store with little ones and just let them destroy ailes and we can spend a half hour replacing stuff after they leave.
looks like you are going to have to install cameras just about everywhere to catch someone nowadays. It is not the first act of this kind and surely won't be the last. Lets make it very expensive at least for someone that does get caught.
I read where you talk about kids being parented and taught better, this is a sentiment I understand. However I observe how increasingly the truth is many turn over parental leadership duties to the state. A state that is all to happy to usurp the family model. Parent is a joy privilege and responsibility. It was asked about these kids having pride in the community. The same state they are putting in charge of their children is busy teaching them at every turn that this community is no good and has nothing to offer them. This is just one of the symptoms that I warned about, fight the disease not the symptoms restore civic pride and look to our own to take care of our own.
Seems to me that if the City of Nevada would provide a "free wall" or a designated surface where painting was allowed we could refocus what's considered vandalism on a private structure into an acceptable practice of art.
As for the destructive behavior of the culprit's, it's an unfortunate reality. If the problem persists then it might be a keen idea to have the law enforcement police the area more frequently.
seems to me you could found a group and find some funds for your so called artistic expression. If it isn't yours then it must be vandalism, though how artistic is that smiley face really?
You seem to be confused as to which side i'm on, or you're just biased against spray paint as a medium. I'm proposing an alternative not a campaign on why vandalism is justified.
Art doesn't always have to be beautiful!
No, Your confused I think this is an interesting idea for mural artist and the like! However I do not feel this is something the tax payer needs to foot the bill for. I also do not consider every stick figure ever drawn as art regardless of the medium though that I will admit is a matter of personal opinion as I have seen many things regarded as high art that I believe was only a joke. You are right it doesn't have to be, neither is every line created art either, so perhaps if we actually held a higher standard then the result would be more stirring? If it is done on anything the artist doesn't own then it is vandalism no matter how well or poorly executed it happens to be.
Thse skate park was installed to give kids a "place" to skate...didn't stop them from skate boarding on the square...here's a thought...teach the artist that it's WRONG to paint something that doesn't belong to you. Accountability for ones actions. WOW...go figure.
Apples and oranges ^
Apples and oranges? How do you figure? Mima's Statement was spot on. These punks spray painted a wall in my yard too. They better hope the cops catch them before I do.
Comapreing two different subjects. Isn't that the whole concept of the statement apples and oranges?
It doesn't matter to me I was just suggesting an alternative.
Personaly If I were going to indulge in graffiti I would choose the free wall over someones personal property. However; no free wall and I'm going to find a wall or train regardless.
#graffitiwillneverdie
Well SAP I see it as the same subject. Respecting property. Acountability for one's actions. Graffiti is the worse of the two. You obviously subscribe to the mindset that law abiding people should have to pay for and cater to law breakers. "SAP" is quite fitting.
Your "#graffitiwillneverdie" sig was interesting. You one of them?
Fact: Graffiti and skateboarding are two different subjects.
It's not a signature it's a hashtag... which I don't care to explain because you don't even know what it is.
I'm not "one of them." I'm just a free thinker.
Fact: Taxpayer money to fund a skate park so people don't break the law, and taxpayer money to fund a wall so people don't break the law is the same concept.
You're not a thinker at all or you would get that. I'm obviously dealing with a 12 year old. Nuff time wasted.
Oh my mistake, I forgot that was the sole purpous of the skatepark's existence. Exile the kids to a designated area so they won't break the law anymore!
Yet you keep responding.
Lol you mad?
#trolled
I agree MIMA was spot on The purpouse of the skate park was to give them the free area to work out in just like your proposed free wall! The issue is they don't want to be artist's they want the thrill of rebellion. If you think painting on things that are not meant for that why don't you give us all your address and we will come practice or spray can technique on something you own. That should be apples to apples enough for ya SAP.
CHIBBERS and MIMA very appropriate
Who works out in the Skatepark? No one that I know of.
120 south ash street, come on down. Already got hit up once >.
USS_Missouri, wonder if his mommy knows he's playing on the internet again. LOL

Skateboarders can NOT skate at the skatepark park when the gate is locked. Why must everyone always pick on the skateboards.
Skateboarding is not a crime.
They can call and have the gate unlocked though. Who is picking on the skateboarders. The point was that throwing tax dollars at a vandal to give him his way will just waste money. For many it is not the skating they crave but the rebellion. For the most part skating isn't very damaging. Vandalism though is about damage especially in the cases mentioned here. Sap at least can stay on topic with that idea.
Umm hey Missouri, you misunderstood. I was referring to SAP. I'm far from being on welfare.
In regards then my apologies
