If you think you'll feel like taking a competitive jog across Marmaduke Park Saturday morning, the Nevada Rotary Club wants to meet you in your workout clothes and running shoes.

The organization's Second Annual Run Amuk 5K Run and Walk will fire the starting pistol at 8 a.m. Saturday to raise money for college scholarships for area students.

Registration and packet pickups will open at 7 a.m. near the pavilion in the central area of the picturesque park. Five kilometers is about three miles.

Noting that 75 runners helped raise $3,000 last year, Rotary Club spokesman Jeremy Fast said a few participants had signed up Tuesday, but most will probably just show up in the 600 W. Highland Ave. park, pay their $18 entry fee and run. Children under 12 will pay a $5 fee.

Each runner will earn a T-shirt, and medals will be handed to the top three male and female contestants in each age group. The nearby Osage Prairie YMCA is distributing entry forms.

Dr. Fast said the Rotary Club had fared well with getting gold and silver sponsors whose names will on the backs of the T-shirts. They are Heritage State Bank, North Osage Mini-Storage, Insite Support Services, State Farm Insurance with Wes Knell, EyeCare Professionals, Cottey College and Edward Jones Investments.

He said the "hilly, challenging" course is the same one that's used for district high school cross country races. Fast may be reached at (417) 667-3076.
