Oris M. Spencer

Oris M. Spencer, 91, former Deming resident, passed away Monday July 2, 2012, at the New Mexico State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, N.M.

Burial will take place at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at Fort Bayard, N.M.

Oris was born Nov. 28, 1920, in Walker, Mo., to Martha Gilbert and Elmer Spencer. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He came to New Mexico in October of 2006 from Warsaw, Mo. Oris worked as a jeweler and watchmaker. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge and V.F.W.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Spencer of Truth or Consequences; two daughters, Patricia Griffith of Springfield, Mo., Nancy Crain of Richmond, Va.; brother, Dr. Ira Spencer of Nevada, Mo.; two sisters, Esther Ruggirello, Hazel Wigington both of Modesto, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
