HOLDEN, Mo. -- The Nevada Red Sox AA American Legion baseball team lost to Holden 8-7 on Thursday night at the district tournament. The season ended with the loss.

Holden scored three runs in the first inning.

Nevada had a 5-4 lead in the fifth, but Holden answered back, scoring four runs of their own to take an 8-5 lead.

The Red Sox loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the seventh. Kason Schwalm hit a two-run single to cut the deficit to 8-7. But Holden was able to get the final out to get the win.

"I knew coming into the game it was going to come down to the wire," Red Sox Coach Jerrod Alexander said. "Our two teams are very comparable. Losses like this one hurt a little. And any time a season comes to an end it can be tough. Looking back at this team as a whole, and seeing where we were at during our winter workouts, all of the progress is like night and day. And the credit reflects directly on these kids. They are a great group of young men, their parents should be proud."

Three players -- Clay Regers, Morgan Long, and Kyler Cliffman -- have played their final AA game.

"Those three kids have done a tremendous job accepting their roles as leaders and as upperclassmen. They have set a standard of what is expected from the younger kids moving forward."

Note: The Nevada AAA Red Sox are scheduled to host a district tourney next week. The tourney schedule has not been made available to the Herald-Tribune.
