Wendell Gene Jones, 56, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Freeman Health System West, Joplin, Mo., following a brief illness. He was born on March 19, 1956, in Nevada, to Roy L. Jones and Dorothy E. Thompson Jones.

Wendell grew up and lived in Nevada all his life. He attended Nevada schools and graduated from Nevada High School in 1974. He has been employed with American Standard since 1976 and worked up until the time of his sudden death. Wendell lived a simple life. He loved spending time with his children and family. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved looking for mushrooms when spring came around. Wendell enjoyed all the many Jones' dinners. He especially liked his mom's turkey and noodles and homemade ice cream, walking to the creek and the Jones' hayrides.

Survivors include his parents, Roy and Dorothy Jones, Nevada; his children, Shawn Jones, Wendi Jones, and Colby Jones and his mom Angie Prine, all of Nevada; two grandsons, Riddick Shook and Zayne Valdez, both of Nevada; one brother, Randy Jones and his wife, Glenetta, Nevada; two sisters, Vickie Dunn and her husband, Al, Olathe, Kan., and Tena Holland and her husband, Charlie, Nevada; several aunts, uncles; nephews, Ryan Jones and his wife, Kara, Nevada, and Chandler Holland, Nevada; nieces, Carmen Owen and her husband, Jeff, Carrie Poe and her husband, Jamie, and Mindy Davis and her husband, Shawn, Olathe, Kan.; several cousins, many friends, and close dear friends, Phil Gragg and Craig DeBoutez, all of Nevada. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adam and Hazel Jones and Ammerman and Cora Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the funeral home.
