Diamond fuels funding for cancer relief group

Wednesday, August 29, 2012
Vernon County Cancer Relief sold 150 long stemmed roses, each with a velvet bag attached, for $20 each. Cubic zirconia stones were placed inside all but one of the bags. One special bag contained a real, 1/2-carat diamond valued at $1,500, donated by Rinehart Jewelry. Rinehart's staff -- Sonny and Kathy Butler and Cesar and Jennifer Zermeno -- tested the stones, many of which looked real to the naked eye. "We could have sold more roses but were uncertain this year how successful we would be in selling the roses; but next year, we'll plan bigger!" said VCCR President Mike Turnbull.
