Boys swimming shows promise at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Nevada High School boys swimming team opened the season at the Springfield All-Relays Tuesday at Springfield Central High School with some strong performances.

"This was an all relays practice meet," Tigers head coach Ryan Watts said. "Everyone swam well and we looked very competitive in the two freestyle relays."

Bryson Leftwich, Jesse Claypool, Dalton Eador and Morgan Hold got the day started off on a high note for the Tigers when they finished the 400-meter freestyle in 3 minutes, 54.86 seconds. Claypool, Eador, Hold and Andre Ziebachienko posted another strong time of 1:41.05 in the 200-meter freestyle.

In the 400 medley, Steven Brown, Michael Matthews, Ziebachienko and Claypool finished in 4:52.89. The 200-meter breaststroke and 200-meter butterfly didnt go quite as well for the Tigers as the two freestyle relays, but Brown, Matthews, Leftwich, and Hold completed the breaststroke in 2:46.24 and the team of Eador, Leftwich, Ziebachienko and Matthews swam the butterfly in 2:23.97.

The Tigers are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Ozarks Invitational.
