In an effort to bring the inspirational film "Home Run" to Nevada, First Baptist Church of Nevada formed a Batting 1,000 Team with several area churches to promote the idea.

The producer of the movie had two requirements: an eight-screen theater and 1,000 signature commitments to attend the movie opening weekend in 2013. But the producer indicated the eight-screen requirement might be waived for Nevada's Century 6 Theater if the 1,000 commitments could be obtained.

The Batting 1000 Team reached its goal this week with 1,005 signature commitments. The movie, which is filmed at Driller's Stadium in Tulsa, Okla., is directed by David Boyd, whose credits include "Friday Night Lights" and "The Walking Dead." Cast members include Scott Elrod, who appeared in "Men In Trees" and "ARGO," Dorian Brown, who appeared in "Wilfred," Vivica Fox, who appeared in "Independence Day," and Charles Wyson, who played a 5-year-old version of the title character in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."

The "Home Run" regional director also worked with the Christian-based movie, "Courageous."

According to information on www.christiancinema.com, "'Home Run,' the movie is a feel good, Christian based family film that will be an inspiration to all. The film gives hope to those suffering from addiction. This is a movie about baseball, love and encouragement. A must-see movie that will undoubtedly score big."

Those who have collected signed voucher commitments from friends or family members are asked to deliver them to Paula Shafer at First Baptist Church by Oct. 1. For more information on the signature drive, call (417) 667-6036.
