Nola Maxine Bruce

Nola Maxine Bruce, 93, Nevada, went to her heavenly home on Friday, Sept. 21, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kan. She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Lucas, Kan., to Robert Newton Johnston and Leona Ann Dengate Johnston. She married Chester Lee Bruce Sr. on Dec. 24, 1942, in Yuma, Ariz., and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1981.

Nola graduated from Sheldon High School in 1936. She worked for the Kress' Store in Nevada and Cornets in Yuma, Ariz. During the war she worked at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant. Nola worked at the Nevada State Hospital for more than 15 1/2 years.

Survivors include eight children, Richard Lee Johnston and his wife, Karen, Blue Springs, Mo., Roy Lee Bruce and his wife, Lavonna, Springfield, Mo., Michael Lee Bruce and his wife, Connie, Walker, Mo., Rex Lee Bruce and his wife, Betty, Walker, Mary Lee Kinney and her husband Robert, Walker, and Debbie Lee Blankenship and her husband, Dennis, Nevada; grandchildren, Ronnie Johnston, Rick Johnston, Chester Bruce III, Whitney Franks, Micky Bruce, David Bruce, Mindy Honey, Tammy Hutchison, Tim Bruce, Christy Ogle, Robbie Kinney, Caressa Blankenship, and Abbi Blankenship; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Tivis, Warrensburg, Mo., and Wanda Johnston, state of California; four brothers, Dean Johnston, state of Oregon, Don Johnston, Paola, Kan., Delbert Johnston, Nevada, and Dallas Johnston, Independence, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Shirley Moore; one son, Chester Lee Bruce Jr.; one grandson; and 15 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 24, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Jim Tivis officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Springs Cemetery, Roscoe, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends between 5 and 6 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home.
