Middle school volleyball wins Pittsburg tourney

PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Nevada Middle School eighth grade volleyball A team brought home the championship trophy from the Pittsburg Tournament Saturday.

The Nevada eighth graders defeated Pittsburg's B team in two sets by the final scores of 25-6 and 25-10, before knocking off Parsons, 25-19 and 25-15. Nevada finished the day beating Pittsburg's A squad and Joplin North in three sets apiece and taking down Lamar in two sets.

Nevada won the first and third sets against both Pittsburg and Joplin North, taking the Pittsburg match by the final scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 15-4. Nevada won the Joplin North match, 25-15, 25-22 and 15-4.

Both the seventh and eighth grade squads were back in action on Monday, at Joplin. In Monday's contests, both Nevada's seventh grade A and B teams defetated Joplin East. The A team won by final scores of 25-19 and 25-15; the B team won with final scores of 25-8 and 25-8.

The eighth grade A team won in a hard-fought contest, 27-12, 21-25 and 27-25.

The eighth grade B team lost with final scores of 24-18 and 25-23.
