HARRISONVILLE, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tigers varsity volleyball team finished third in the Harrisonville Tournament Saturday with a 3-2-1 record.
"It was a long day of volleyball and the girls really had to pull together and work hard to come out with some of the wins that we did and to get the third-place finish," Lady Tigers head coach Ashley Thoreson said. "This was a great tournament for us to go to at the end of season because there were several competitive teams that we were able to play and we also played Harrisonville, who we play first round of districts."
The Lady Tigers defeated Springfield Hillcrest in their first pool match by the final scores of 25-16 and 25-16, suffered a close loss to Harrisonville in two sets, 25-20 and 25-22, and finished pool play with a win over Belton, 27-25 and 25-20. In bracket play, Notre Dame de Sion (Kansas City, Mo.) defeated Nevada by the final scores of 25-21 and 25-18, and the Lady Tigers bounced back to beat Odessa, 25-21 and 25-13, in the third-place match.
"We again played inconsistent and our ball control and errors really hurt us in several matches, especially against Harrisonville, who beat us both sets," Thoreson said. "We saw a whole different team than the Harrisonville who we played at the beginning of season and it caught us off guard. We could not get control of the game and Harrisonville did a good job of moving their offense around, which made it hard for us to play defense. We know what we have to do to beat them and will be working hard in practice to prepare for them and our other opponents."
Regan Kannady led the Lady Tigers with 49 kills, while Morgan McNeley had 125 assists. Sharla Quick was credited with 61 digs and Rilie Good had 17 blocks.
The Lady Tigers are 17-8-3 on the season. The NHS junior varsity and varsity teams were scheduled to conclude their regular season schedules with matches at Lamar Monday, but those results were not available at press time.
