NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- The 38th annual Missouri State High School Activities Association Girls' Golf Championships concluded Tuesday at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club with one local athlete in the mix, competing for a state championship.

Nevada High School sophomore Hannah Householder worked her way through both the Class 1, District 4 and the Class 1, Sectional 2 tournaments, just making the cut for this year's state tournament by tying for the highest score that moved on from the first girls' Sectional tournament ever played at Frank E. Peters Municipal Golf Course. Householder rode the momentum she acquired from those two tournaments right into the Class 1 State Championship at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club and finished just below the midpoint of the pack after the tournament's opening day.

Householder finished in a tie for 58th place overall out of the 89 golfers in the tournament. Householder's opening day score of 105 equalled the performances of Mount Vernon's Lexi Farmer, Odessa's Kylee Snyder and Barstow's Kelsey Thorp.

Westminster Christian Academy's Brooke Cusumano led the way after day one with a 3-over 75. Her school also finished the opening day atop the team standings with an overall score of 330.

Householder and the rest of the field completed the tournament Tuesday and many placements were shuffled noticeably as several scores fluctuated away from the opening day totals. Householder's score was no exception as she finished the second round nine strokes better than the first, turning in a second-round total of 96 to bring her total for the tournament to 201.

Not only did that strong second-round showing help Householder's overall score, but it raised her position in the overall standings as well. Householder ultimately picked up seven spots on the tournament's final day, finishing in a tie for 51st with Trenton's Haley Purkapile and Chandler Wilson, as well as Salisbury's Bethany Stallo.

Cusumano won the overall tournament title, backing up her strong first-round showing with a second-round 79 to finish at 154 for the tournament. Westminster Christian ultimately held on to win the team title with an overall score of 669, 52 strokes ahead of second place, Villa Duchesne.
