Rich Hill volleyball wins district championship

LIBERAL, Mo. -- There were no upsets Monday night in the first round of the Class 1, District 11 volleyball tournament at Liberal High School.

Third-seeded Hume defeated Bronaugh by the final scores of 25-12 and 25-17, while Sheldon gave the Lady Knights of Northeast Vernon County all they wanted in a close defeat by the final scores of 25-23 and 31-29 and Liberal defeated Miami-Amoret, 25-11 and 25-9.

The tournament concluded Tuesday night with the semifinal and championship matches. In the semifinals, Hume was eliminated by Liberal in two sets, while Rich Hill came from behind after losing the opening set to take down NEVC by the final scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-17.

Rich Hill went on to beat the Lady Bulldogs by the final scores of 25-23 and 25-20 to win the district championship. The Lady Tigers will play either Green Ridge or Osceola Saturday in the opening match of the Class 1 state tournament.
