Lewis George Carter Sr., 75, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at his home as the result of an accidental fire. He was born on July 7, 1937, in Gretna, Neb., to Franklin Hobart Carter and Sarah Frances Sinnard Carter. He married Joleen Wiegel on Oct. 22, 1970, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Mr. Carter was raised in Scotts Bluff, Neb., and attended a one-room school there. He worked for Wilson Certified Foods as a meat packer in Omaha for 21 years. Lewis had lived in Harwood for 21 years and in Nevada for the past eight years.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Joleen, include two sons, Lewis Carter Jr. and his companion, Tracy Minor, Bronaugh, Mo., and Ricky Carter and his wife, Sheryl, Nevada; four grandchildren, Matthew Carter-Minor, Tyler Minor, Tabatha Carter and Johnathan Carter; one brother, Clarence Carter, Lamar, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, John Franklin (infant), and Matthew Adam Carter.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 9, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Chad Bailey officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
