Nevada High School senior Christian Novak made the verbal commitment she made to play softball at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, official Wednesday, when she signed a letter of intent to play for the Wildcats in the Nevada High School library.

Novak played four seasons on head coach Tammy Holcomb's Lady Tigers varsity softball squad and has played on traveling teams since she was in third grade. She will continue that long and storied career with the Wildcats of Weber State starting next spring.

In the 2012 spring season, the Wildcats finished with an overall record of 21-32 and went 10-10 in Pacific Coast Conference play. Novak said that her decision to join the Wildcats was based on a number of factors, but the visit she made to the campus about two months ago solidified her plans.

"They seemed like they could be a good home away from home for me," Novak said.

Novak was a member of the 2010 Lady Tigers team that won the Class 3 State Championship and she earned first-team All-District, All-Region and All-State honors in 2010 and 2011. She also earned All-District honors in 2009 and was a first team All-District and All-Region selection, as well as second-team All-State in 2012.

She was also a member of the Academic All-State team in 2011 and holds career and single-season Nevada High School records in a combined total of 16 statistical categories.

Novak's career records include 96 appearances in a game, 67 wins, 565 1-3 innings pitched, 8,461 pitches thrown, a 0.88 career ERA, 804 strikeouts, 10 no-hitters and 34 shutouts. Her single-season records include the 234 strikeouts and 0.75 ERA she recorded in the 2012 season, along with the 27 games she appeared in, 21 games she won and 2,534 pitches she threw in the 2011 campaign, as well as her five no-hitters and 13 shutouts in 2010.

Novak finished her career with an overall record of 67-24 with 209 runs allowed -- 71 earned -- 21 hit batters and 15 homers allowed in the pitching circle and she hit .440 with 44 hits, 22 RBIs and one homer in 100 career at-bats.

Upon her high school graduation this spring, Novak will begin her pursuit of a degree in secondary education and will make the transition into her new role as a Weber State Wildcat. Her new team opens the 2013 spring softball season next February.
