the Superheroes of Kindness -- preschoolers from St. Mary's Preschool in Nevada, donned hats instead of capes on Dec. 6, for a special celebration marking the one-year anniversary of the program in Nevada. Some alumni from last year's inaugural superhero squad joined this year's superheroes for the celebration.

Singing for the Senior Center, handing out flowers to the veterans, collecting food for the needy, wishing Cottey College students good luck on their finals, and even thanking the ambulance, police and fire departments for all their hard work -- all of this may seem like a lot of things and may tire the average person -- but not the Superheroes of Kindness. These are just a few things they have done in their first year in Nevada.

The preschoolers at St. Mary's School are no ordinary class of 3- and 4-year-olds. On special occasions they don capes and go out and spread kindness throughout Nevada; and they've been doing so for a year, now.

Their first visit, made last December, was to Erica Skouby at Nine Patch Quilt and Fabric, to thank her for donating fabric and thread used to make their capes.

The group is modeled after a similar program in Missoula, Mont.; and in Nevada, the children were read a story about filling your bucket every day with good deeds.

On Dec. 6 the Superheroes celebrated their first birthday in fine style. They put on party hats instead of capes and enjoyed cupcakes and balloons. "We even brought in some of our graduated Superheroes from last year to join in on the celebration," said Phil Bures, who helps the superheroes accomplish their super acts of kindness.

With one year under the Superheroes capes they have started to get the hang of things and plan on making year two even better.

"So keep an eye out for the Superheroes of Kindness because you never know when they might just pay you a visit," Bures said in the press release.
