WEBB CITY, Mo. -- The Nevada Lady Tigers swim team scored a number of firsts in Tuesday's meet at Webb City High School.
The Lady Tigers topped the Lady Eagles of Joplin by a combined score of 85-70 and the Lady Jays Marshfield, 111-20, but were edged by the hosting Lady Cardinals of Webb City narrowly by a final score of 84-82 before falling to the Springfield Kickapoo Chiefs, 123-51, in team competition.
In the individual portion of the competition, Nevada's 200 medley relay team -- Melody Reichard, Tayrin Schmitt, Grace Reichard and Abbie Landoll -- took first with a time of 2 minutes, 11.37 seconds. The Lady Tigers' second 200 medley relay team of Lauren Watts, Kaitlyn Richmond, Tayler Matthews and Cheryl Odinga finished ninth with a time of 3:05.82.
The Lady Tigers also took second with a time of 1:55.86, seventh with a time of 2:20.86 and 11th with a time of 2:52.98 in the 200 freestyle relay, as well as fifth in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 5:09.
Grace Reichard also posted first-place times in the individual 200 freestyle race (2:13.54) and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.95), while Melody Reichard took fourth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:19.45. Morgan Ernsbarger took third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:41 and second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:18.68.
Schmitt posted a fourth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:25.75 and Landoll was sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 30.21 seconds. In the 100 butterfly, Matthews posted a sixth-place finish with a time of 1:54.93 and Elizabeth Prewitt posted the third-place time of 7:14.33 in the 500 freestyle.
Prewitt also took seventh in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:39.15, while Lize Smith finished 13th in 2:55.63.
In the 50 freestyle, Watts took 16th with a time of 35.15 seconds, while Maddie Gordon finished 17th in 35.88, Richmond was 19th in 36.41, Odinga was 32nd in 45.25 and Tracy Helms finished 33rd in 1:07.34. Smith took 14th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:18.58, while Richmond was 22nd in 1:26.27 and Odinga finished 25th in 1:41.88.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to be back in the pool on Monday, Dec. 17, when they head back out on the road to compete in the Carthage Pentathlon. That meet is set to feature teams from Springfield's Glendale High School, Ozark, Joplin and Seymour, as well as the hosting Lady Tigers of Carthage and Nevada.
