Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Registrations are now being accepted for the the Second Annual Children's Performance Fair hosted by Cottey College and the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center. The Children's Performance Fair will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, from 1-4 p.m., in commemoration of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

As a community service project Cottey students will offer free performing and visual art classes to area third- fourth- and fifth-grade children, followed by a public performance and art gallery viewing.

Classes will include dance, acting, vocal music, drumming and visual arts. In addition to teaching the classes, Cottey students will be the event coordinators for the children's live performance, as well as the children's art gallery.

The student led workshops will last about two hours, with each class limited to 12 children.

The dance, acting, vocal music and drumming performances will be open to the public.

Refreshments will be served during the art gallery viewing for the visual arts class participants immediately after the performances.

To register a child for one of the classes, call the community center at (417) 448-2740. Registration will be on a first come basis and will end when each class size is reached.
