Nevada's eighth-grade boys' basketball team split with McDonald County, with the A team winning, 34-27, and the B team getting edged, 27-22, Thursday night.
In the A game, Matt Sommer and Patrick Ferry led the team with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Tyler Ketterman led the team defensively while Ferry and Jacob Johnson both had four blocked shots each.
"We are starting to understand our defensive assignments and executing on each end of the court," noted head coach Tyson Beshore. "John Quitno really passed the ball well tonight and had four assists."
McDonald county came into the game with a 4-0 record.
In the B team game, Cameron Diaz led Nevada with 11 points. Payton Bright and Thomas Prewitt both had seven rebounds and "played great defense," Beshore said.
"We are learning every time we take the court and the entire team is working hard," he said. "I am proud of the effort by all 15 players tonight in both games. They are a great group of young men."
The A team is 1-1 and the B team is 0-2 on the season.
