Bronaugh boys fall in tournament play

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Bronaugh remained in contention throughout, but was unable to match Colgan's boys' prolific offense in an 87-56 defeat Tuesday night in the Tony Dubray Classic basketball tournament in Liberal.

Bronaugh was due to play Wednesday against Northeast Arma, while Colgan advanced to face Wheaton, a winner over Northeast Arma.

In the bottom half of the bracket, Galena and Liberal -- both opening round winners -- will play today, while Thomas Jefferson was due to face Golden City Wednesday in the consolation bracket. Wednesday's results were not available at press time.

Bronaugh trailed, 26-19, after eight minutes and 41-32 at halftime. But Colgan fired in 22 more in the third period and led, 63-47, at the end of three.

Colgan poured in 24 more in the final frame, while holding the Wildcats to nine.

Patrick Hallam rifled in 27 points to pace Bronaugh. Josh Willis contributed 15, Blake Hudson had eight, Chance Wait four, and Cole Diggins two.

Dyson Dechant's 35 led all scorers to key the winners, who also got 21 from Luke Marquardt and 13 from Austin Commons.
