Payton Hays, daughter of Andy and Tammy Hays, of Walker, and a senior at Northeast Vernon County High School, has made a first for her school. She signed a letter of intent to play softball at Fort Scott Community College next season. "This is quite an honor," said Richard Wagner, athletic director and softball coach at NEVC. "This effort is a combination of athletic and academic endeavors. Payton has done well in both." Payton's grandparents are Dennis and Nadine Hyder of Nevada and Glen and Alberta Hays, of Walker.
