It was a tough night for Sheldon's basketball girls as they ran into a Weaubleau team that went on an offensive blitz in each quarter, ultimately defeating the Lady Panthers, 74-11, in the first round of the Osceola Invitational tournament Tuesday night.
Sheldon trailed, 18-8, at the first break, 32-9, at halftime, and 56-11, after three quarters. The eventual winners shut out the Panthers 18-0 over the final 8 minutes.
Sheldon dropped into the consolation round and was due to face Climax Springs, a 41-40 loser to Lakeland. Weaubleau and Lakeland will meet in the winners' bracket Thursday.
Macks Creek, a 48-22 winner over Appleton City, and Osceola, a 48-42 victor over Hermitage, will square off in the other half of the winners' bracket Thursday, while Appleton City and Hermitage were to meet in the other half of the consolation bracket Wednesday.
Destiny Shelton had six points and Alesha Laning finished with five for Sheldon.
Weaubleau had three players in double figures, led by Roweton, who connected for 28 points to lead all scorers.
