Friday's 2012 United Way Appreciation and Awards Luncheon recognized those who played an integral role in the group's success the past year.

But more importantly, it gave those present the opportunity to celebrate the news that, after coming close the past several years to the goal of $112,000, this past campaign met that goal and exceeded it, finishing with $113,783.70.

Board President Adam Dean thanked all those who had a hand in making that happen and expressed his appreciation to the community for supporting the United Way's member agencies, who in turn, give back to the citizens of the community.

Following a performance by the Nevada High School Soundsational Singers directed by Wes Morton, certificates were awarded to the luncheon sponsors Bank of America, Empire District Gas Company, First National Bank, Great Southern Bank, Heritage State Bank, CPA Larry Bledsoe, and KNEM-KNMO Radio.

Media and Oktoberfest Awards followed to the radio station and the Nevada Daily Mail, and then to Great Southern Bank, US Bank, the City of Nevada, Vernon County Adult Recovery Court, Missouri Eagle LLC, and Cubbage Country Meat Market.

Challenge Program Coordinators certificates were presented to Angie Nichols, Oktoberfest Chili Cook-off chair and United Way treasurer; Betsy Curtis, committee member and board member; Ross Lawrence, committee member and board member; Carmen Williams, committee member and UW Board secretary; Corey Johnson, committee member and Oktoberfest emcee; David Heumader, co-chair of the fund drive, board vice president, and committee member; and Adam Dean, board president, fund drive co-chair, and committee member.
