Nevada Police arrest armed man

According to a report from the Nevada Police Department, on Jan. 22, officers spotted a person driving a car that was reported stolen on the previous day. Officers Lukas Gibson and Patrick Deao stopped the car and when they approached the driver he fled on foot. While the officers chased the suspect through the neighbor on foot they saw that he had a large sheath knife on his belt. Gibson and Deao finally captured 31-year-old Michael B. Markham, of Lee's Summitt, near the intersection of Austin Boulevard and Elizabeth Street.

Following his apprehension officers found Markham also had a taser and a loaded pistol on his person. When officers searched the recovered vehicle additional straight-edged weapons were found, as well as a product believed to be a controlled substance.

Markham is currently being held at the Vernon County Jail with a $10,000 cash bond on four felony charges: tampering in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a persistent offender (felon).

Chief of Police Graham Burnley said afterward that he was "very grateful that our officers were able to take this man into custody without injury to the police, the suspect or innocent community members."
