Sheldon boys fall in tournament play

Friday, January 25, 2013

OSCEOLA, Mo. -- A sluggish first half proved to be Sheldon's downfall as the boys dropped their second game in the Osceola Invitational Wednesday. The Panthers fell, 53-42, to Climax Springs in the consolation bracket.

Climax Springs will go on to face Hermitage, a 62-50 winner over Appleton City in the other half of the bracket. The consolation championship is scheduled for Friday night.

The Panthers fell behind, 20-9, at the first break and trailed, 31-14, at the halftime intermission.

The second half was better for Sheldon as the Panthers held Climax Springs to just four points, while scoring 11 themselves in the third. The difference was only a point in the final period as Sheldon matched all but one of its opponent's points.

Reed Worsley connected on 16 points for the Panthers. Corey Baney chipped in with 11 and Micah Swanson added 10, all in the second half. Rounding out the scoring for Sheldon were Taylor Belew with three points and Robbie McCartney with two.

Climax Springs had two players in double figures and seven in the scoring column.
