CLINTON, Mo. -- Seniors Silas Smith and Nathan Colopy teamed up to score 53 points to lead the Nevada Tigers varsity basketball team to a 68-45 win over Sherwood Thursday night in the semifinals of the 88th annual Clinton basketball tournament.
The Tigers are to play top-seeded Knob Noster at 5 p.m., today in the championship game. Smith scored a game-high 30 points against the Marksmen and Colopy added a career-best 23, despite fouling out with six minutes left in the game.
Nevada is 10-6.
Cody Wade led the Marksmen with 22 points and Brett Eddleman added 10 as Sherwood saw its record sag to 10-8.
Nevada led, 8-0, early only to see Sherwood respond with its own 8-0 run for the game's only tie. The Tigers led, 17-10, after the first quarter and by 15 points, 35-20, at the half on the way to the win.
Knob Noster defeated the Van Horn Falcons, Independence, Mo., 54-42, in Thursday night's other winner's bracket semifinal game. Clinton defeated El Dorado Springs, 54-31, and Holden's Eagles downed the Warrensburg junior varsity in Thursday night's consolation-bracket games.
