Nevada Classic pool play concludes

Republic and Blue Valley Southwest rounded out pool play in the Nevada Lady Tiger Classic tournament Friday night.

Both teams came into the contest with one win in the tournament and that win for each squad came against the same opponent. Republic opened the tournament Monday night with a 70-21 drubbing of Joplin, while Blue Valley Southwest beat the Lady Eagles Wednesday night, 60-29.

When the two squared off Friday night, Alice Heinzler led the Lady Tigers with 16 points in a 60-36 victory. Heinzler was joined in double figures by Tori Taylor, who finished the night with 11 points.

Hunter Thomas led the offensive effort for Blue Valley as she finished as the only Timberwolves player in double figures with 11 of her own.

The Lady Tigers led all the way, opening up a 14-9 advantage after a quarter that eventually grew to 31-18 at halftime. A 15-9 third quarter extended the Lady Tigers' lead to 46-27 heading into the fourth quarter and a strong final 8 minutes that saw the Lady Tigers outscore Blue Valley, 14-9, sealed the victory.

With the win, the Lady Tigers move on to face Nevada for the tournament championship today, at 3 p.m., while Blue Valley takes on Carthage in the third place game at 1:30.
