The Cottey College Comets basketball team edged the Hesston College Lady Larks, 56-53, in overtime Friday night at Hesston, Kan.
Hesston held a 35-23 lead at halftime, but the Comets battled back and eventually tied the game at 50 when the regulation clock expired. The Comets went on to win the overtime session, 6-3, to seal the victory.
Eight players got into the scoring column for the Comets, led by Dayna Turnbull with 16 points. Turnbull was joined in double figures by Blaklee Sanders, who finished with 13.
Destavia Davis led Hesston's offense with 15 points.
As a team the Comets shot 15-for-71 from the field, while Hesston went 19-for-59. From the free-throw line, the Comets finished 25-for-37, while the Lady Larks finished 8-for-15.
Head coach Dave Ketterman's squad now sits at 12-1 this season and is to visit NJCAA D-II Region XVI rival North Central Missouri College at Trenton, Mo., Wednesday night, before hosting Hesston next Saturday afternoon in the gym at Hinkhouse Center on the Cottey College campus.
