The Cottey College Comets defeated Hesston College's Lady Larks, 73-62, Saturday afternoon in the gym at Hinkhouse Center on the Cottey College campus.
Head coach Dave Ketterman's squad led, 39-27, at halftime on the way to its 14th victory in 15 games this season.
In the last meeting between the two squads, the Comets needed overtime to pick up the victory by a final score of 56-53 after being forced to come back from a 35-23 halftime deficit, but that wasn't the case Saturday as Ketterman's squad got the lead early and held on to win in regulation. Thanks to this latest loss, the Lady Larks saw their record slip to 9-13 on the season.
Atchison, Kan., sophomore Blaklee Sanders led the Comets with 24 points and 10 rebounds and was joined in double figures by Dayna Turnbull with 13 and Kat Zumalt with 10.
Bryana Young led the Lady Larks with 14 points.
After the game, Ketterman said he was pleased with the effort of his players, but he thinks their legs may have been a little tired after 7-hour bus rides last weekend and Wednesday night for road games.
The Comets are off until next Saturday, when the Lady Archers of St. Louis Community College visit Nevada. Tipoff for that contest is set for 1 p.m.
