Joyce LaVaun Carr

Joyce LaVaun Carr, 87, Nevada, passed away on Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Barone Alzheimer Care Center in Nevada. She was born May 22, 1925, in Walnut, Ill., to Beryl Edward Washburn and Anna Gertrude Orth Washburn. She married Edward Francis Carr on Dec. 16, 1945, in Rock Island, Ill., and he preceded her in death in 1992.

Joyce was raised in the Quad Cities area. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1943. Joyce worked for 14 years as librarian at the Mid Continent Public Library in Raytown, Mo. She lived in Raytown for nearly 50 years until coming to Nevada in 1999, where she spent the remainder of her life. Joyce was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nevada.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathey Carr and Jennifer Jones and her husband, Ron, both of Nevada; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Wallace, Homewood, Ill., and Joanne Williams, Rock Island, Ill.; one daughter-in-law, Beverly Carr, Mansfield, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Anna May Washburn and Carole Diane Kehl; one son, Stephen Carr; and one daughter, Anne Marie Carr.

A wake service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Tom Albers officiating. Visitation will follow until 3:30 p.m., at the funeral home. A committal service will be held at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill.
