Heavenly body

After putting on a show for skywatchers in the southern hemisphere for the last month or so, Comet Pan-STARRS has moved into the northern hemisphere's skies and can sometimes be seen with the naked eye low in the western sky about 45 minutes after sunset. Tonight the comet will be visible about 10 or 15 degrees to the left or south of a crescent moon which helps to locate the comet. For the best chance of seeing the comet, find a location away from street lights with a good of the western horizon, like this location just west of the YMCA on the entrance road to Marmaduke Park. To photograph the comet you will need a camera that permits a long exposure, with either a cable release or a self-timer and a tripod. This photograph was taken with a Nikon D-300s and a 200 mm f 2.8 zoom lens at 165 mm and f 2.8 with a 4 second exposure at ISO 400.Ralph Pokorny/Daily Mail
