Fisher, Hawks reseated on NSD board

Two incumbents were re-elected to seats on the Nevada R-5 School District Board during Tuesday's school board elections.

Incumbent Amanda Fisher garnered the most votes with 440 (39.71 percent), followed closely by incumbent Joy Hawks, who received 438 votes (39.53 percent).

Newcomer Michelle Ji received 227 votes (20.49 percent), while one write-in candidate got 3 votes (.27 percent).

In the Bronaugh R-7 District, David Diggins and Chris Baker outpolled Chris Haynes to take two school board vacancies. Diggins won 159 votes (45.17 percent), followed by Baker with 97 (27.56 percent). Haynes got 95 votes (26.99 percent).

In the Hume R-8 District, one vote separated each of the three candidates, who were vying for two positions. Jeffrey Davidson received the top votes in Vernon County with 15 (30.61 percent), while Stephen Yarick got 14 votes (28.57 percent) and Gail Yarick tallied 13 votes (26.53 percent).

Overall district totals weren't available at press time.

In Northeast Vernon County R-1 District, David L. Bruce and Connie M. Gerster led a field of six candidates to capture the two open seats.

Bruce had 99 votes (23.46 percent), followed by Gerster with 95 votes (22.51 percent). Other candidates were Heath Brown, with 75 votes (17.77 percent); Broc Koshko, 72 votes (17.06 percent); Gary Skelton, 61 votes (14.45 percent); and David Buttorf, 20 votes (4.74 percent).

In Sheldon R-8 District, Jarod Lamb had the most votes with 98 (39.52 percent). Two candidates tied for second place. Joanne Turner Dedrick and Paul Sprenkle each received 50 votes (20.16 percent). It was unclear at press time Tuesday who would be declared the winner or what action, if any, would be taken to break the tie.

Marlene Moran garnered 48 votes (19.35 percent) and two un-named write-in candidates got 1 vote (.4 percent) each.

In the Rich Hill R-4 District, which includes part of Vernon County, Landon Swope and Wade Mumma appear to have captured the two open seats, beating four other candidates. Swope had the most votes with 269, followed by Mumma with 254. Others were Jennifer Perkey Ewing with 153 votes, Leon Robb with 128 votes, Charles Kellogg with 127 votes. A total for Samuel Hardin was not available.

Vernon County totals were Hardin, 13 (36.11 percent); Swope, 12 (33.89 percent); Perkey-Ewing, 5 (13.89 percent); Mumma, 4 (11.11 percent); and Robb and Kellogg, 1 vote (2.78 percent) each.
