Sheldon track season under way

SHELDON -- The Panthers and Lady Panthers track and field team at Sheldon High School has officially gotten its 2013 campaign under way.

In the first meet of the season on April 4, in Stockton, Mo., Kasey Jones placed first in the mile and second in the 2-mile run. Caitlyn Claflin placed third in the mile and Reed Worsley placed third in high jump.

Friday's meet at Cass Midway saw Claflin place third in the 800-meter run, while Jones placed second in the mile. Worsley placed second in the high jump.

Christian Casey was second in triple jump and Chelsea Laning placed second in the shot put. Danielle Laning placed second in discus and third in shot put for Sheldon's junior high squad.

On Monday, Sheldon traveled to Archie and Claflin, Jones and Chelsea Laning were once again able to put forth strong showings. Claflin placed third in the mile and 2-mile runs, while Jones placed second in the mile and 2-mile runs on the boys' side. Chelsea Laning placed third in the shot put.

At El Dorado Springs on Tuesday, Worsley took second in the high jump while Chelsea Laning came in second in the shot put and Casey was third in the triple jump.

Next on the schedule for Sheldon is Tuesday, when head coach Kim Shroyer's squad head back out on the road to compete at Archie.
